Feb. 6th, 2012 07:09 amI was really hoping for a calm, drama-free weekend and I got it for the most part.
That is, until 4ish this morning, when Shane woke up and thought he heard rain. Even with the unseasonably warm weather we've been having, that seemed weird, so he got up to check it out.
Which is a good thing because it was raining. In our apartment. From the upstairs neighbor's water heater. There was a deluge in the utility closet, and water dripping down from the canister lights in the hallway. I ran upstairs to wake the neighbor, who we hadn't yet met, and Shane ran downstairs to wake the revered maintenance man, who lived up to his reputation in a pinch.
I don't know exactly what happened - the water heater didn't burst, but maybe a valve did? - but Joe got it turned off, Christine apologized profusely, and Shane mopped up what he could. We went back to bed at 4:45, laid awake til almost 6, and now it's 7:10 and I have a job interview in two hours and have to leave to sit in rush hour traffic half awake and totally friend.
On the bright side, there's no damage to our stuff that we can see, and we met our neighbor, albeit when we were in PJs and she was in a robe and her water heater was dripping on our heads. On the not so bright side, well, see the above.
