2 days in San Diego

Hey f'list - any suggestions on cheap or relatively cheap and fun things to do/see/eat in San Diego? We're flying in on Christmas Day and will be there through the 27th, when my family arrives and we head up to Carlsbad. Stuff within a short drive of Carlsbad would be awesome too.
